Recreation and Culture
The District of Guysborough offers endless opportunities for outdoor recreation, cultural activities and exploration.
Outstanding Recreational Facilities
Throughout our District, municipal recreational facilities attract residents and visitors for health, fitness and social activities.
With the addition of the Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex, Guysborough is unmatched in its campus of recreational and social facilities. In one interconnected location, we offer everything from skating, tennis, soccer and basketball to swimming, rollerblading and community events.
In Canso, a full-size skating arena is a hub of activity from fall to spring for figure skating, hockey and recreational skating. It’s adjacent to an outdoor municipal swimming pool – a busy spot for lessons and fun in summer.
In Country Harbour, a community marina is a wonderful destination for summer travellers. The marina is an addition to other recreational amenities serving residents and tourists, including a modern playground and impressive community rink in winter months.
Throughout the District are scenic hiking trails — part of Canada’s Great Trail — and parks, curling rinks, museums and art exhibits.
From the offerings of Miles MacDonald Performance Centre and the productions of Mulgrave Road Theatre , to the international Stan Rogers Folk Festival and music flowing from community halls everywhere, you’ll find an abundance of rich cultural opportunities close to home.
