Dynamic new recreational space coming to Guysborough

Guysborough, Nova Scotia, April 19, 2017 Investing in recreational infrastructure helps communities come together and supports active lifestyles. The governments of Canada and Nova Scotia recognize that strategic investments in recreational infrastructure—including funding for local sports facilities—play a key role in supporting dynamic and healthy communities while creating good jobs that help grow the middle class.

Today, Rodger Cuzner, Member of Parliament for Cape Breton–Canso, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Lloyd Hines, Nova Scotia Minister of Natural Resources and Member of the Legislative Assembly for Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie announced $3 million in joint federal-provincial funding for the construction of the new Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex. Municipality of the District of Guysborough Warden Vernon Pitts, also participated in the event.

Residents of Guysborough and neighboring communities will benefit from the construction of a new multi-purpose lifestyle centre featuring a gymnasium, an indoor fitness centre, and multi-use meeting and event spaces. The surrounding outdoor grounds will offer a soccer field, a four-lane running track, spectator seating, and a refrigerated shinny rink, and a 900 foot refrigerated skating trail.

The governments of Canada and Nova Scotia are each contributing $1.5 million to this project under the Small Communities Fund. The municipality is providing the remainder of the cost.
