Community
The communities that make up the District of Guysborough are close-knit. That doesn’t stop them from sharing a common bond, a single community with a shared vision for a prosperous future for the entire District.
The people in that larger community work together, and as a result, the District offers more amenities, cultural and recreational opportunities and services to residents than most Municipalities much larger in size.
The District is served by GASHA – the Guysborough Antigonish Strait Health Authority. Community hospitals, fully staffed with doctors, nurses and technicians can be found in the Shiretown of Guysborough and in Canso. The Municipality operates the Milford Haven Home for Special Care, a Long Term Care Facility in Guysborough.
Excellent public schools are located in the Shiretown of Guysborough (P-12) and Hazel Hill (P-8). The entire District has access to high-speed internet and many communities have water and/or sewer systems.
Recreational opportunities are widely available to residents in all parts of the District, and a new municipal skating and hockey rink is in development. Community events are at least a weekly feature.
Four times a year, the Municipality puts out a newsletter that is so full of information and events that no one could possibly take them all in.
