The Municipality of the District of Guysborough has an opening for the position of a Summer Student Coordinator. This is a 4-month term position; normal working hours are between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with additional evening and weekend work as required. This position is responsible for the overall promotion, operation and development of physical activity programs and services for the Municipality.

Enrolled in Post-Secondary Education in the field of recreation, health promotion, physical education or equivalent is required. Work experience in recreation or health promotion is considered an asset. The Municipality of the District of Guysborough has an immediate opening for a casual Data Processor/Scale Operator at the Waste Management Facility Site.  

The normal working hours for this position are Saturdays from 8:00 am until 12 noon and is also a replacement position for staff during vacation, sick leaves, special projects etc.; therefore, candidates must be available to work on short notice.

The Data Processor/Administrative Assistant will be responsible to the Site Supervisor and Director of Waste Management.  The successful applicant is responsible for the efficient and safe operation and recording of all weigh scales data; weighing of all materials being delivered and departing from the Waste Management Facility; and dealing with individuals arriving or departing from the Site to handle waste material.  This position also assists with the general accounting functions of the Facility which includes payables, receivables, some payroll functions, administrative support and receptionist duties. The position requires an individual with excellent public relations skills; communication skills, both oral and written; strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills as well as the ability to use broad range of computer software programs for data and report writing. The successful applicant must be able to work without direct supervision as well as in a team environment and establish and maintain effective working relationships with local officials, co-workers, refuse collectors and contractors, and the general public.

Candidates must have a minimum Grade 12 or equivalent, Business Accounting Diploma, Office Administration Diploma or equivalent and/or a general minimum of two years’ experience with general accounting functions would be beneficial in this position. Knowledge of Solid Waste Strategy and Municipal/Provincial Programs is a definite asset.
